The event was made possible by Vital Flight, a non-profit organization that coordinates free transportation and life-changing experiences for those in need of compassionate, medical, or emotional support. Vital Flight was joined by Signature Flight Support, Certified Engines Unlimited, and Star Warehouse in making the event a success.“Our volunteer pilots, who fund these flights with their own money, are always looking for other ways to give back to those in their community and share their love of flying,” said David Knies, Chairman of Vital Flight, in a press release....

More Storms in Store

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 19:53:01 GMT

Earlier this morning severe storms rolled through parts of Miami-Dade producing significant wind gusts. Plenty of deep moisture is in place once again. A weak cold front will continue moving through the Florida Peninsula today and slow down as it approaches South Florida. That in combination with a disturbance in the upper atmosphere is expected to provide enough lift for another round of afternoon and evening showers and storms with most of the activity happening in the Eastern half of the region. By the afternoon (3pm), a few storms that develop could contain periods of heavy rain and gusty winds. Models are pointing towards coastal Miami-Dade county with the highest risk for strongest storms and heavier rain wherever they setup shop. A few showers may linger Monday night into Tuesday, but they should come to an end as high pressure builds over the Southeast United States due to the front moving South of our area. Therefore, it should be nicer and less humid Tuesday and Wednesday...

In a public health campaign designed “by kinksters, for kinksters,” the World Health Organization (WHO) is calling for Europe’s festival-goers to protect themselves against monkeypox, including getting vaccinated if possible. In a statement, the health body warned those at a higher risk of catching the disease — men who have sex with men with multiple sexual partners — to “continue to be aware of the symptoms of mpox, get tested and abstain from sex if they develop symptoms, and get the mpox vaccine if possible.”The warning is “particularly important as we go into the spring and summer months, when a number of kink and fetish events, as well as numerous Pride festivals, are set to take place across towns and cities throughout Europe,” the statement said.Monkeypox — which the WHO renamed mpox in an effort to reduce stigma associated with the disease — is transmitted between humans through close contact with an infected person. The appearan...

(CNN) — It may be a sunset, a stirring orchestral number or a striking painting — whatever gives you goosebumps or makes you shed a tear. Experts believe that consistently seeking out these awe-inspiring experiences could lead to a significantly happier and healthier life.People find awe in nature, religion and music, as well as through visual art or architecture. We particularly feel it when we “encounter things that are vast or beyond our frame of reference, and that are inexplicable and mysterious,” Dr. Dacher Keltner told CNN in a video interview. “And then those kinds of experiences initiate wonder and contemplation and imagination.”Keltner has been studying human emotion for decades. He is also a co-founder and director of UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center, a research institute that probes questions about our social and emotional well-being. The countdown was halted at the 40-second mark because of a stuck valve in the first-stage booster. Launch controllers couldn’t fix the frozen valve in time, and canceled the attempt. The countdown continued, and fueling was completed, as a dress rehearsal. No people or satellites were aboard. There won’t be another try until at least Wednesday. The company plans to use Starship to send people and cargo to the moon and, ultimately, Mars.On the eve of the launch attempt, cars, campers, RVs and even bicycles and horses jammed the only road leading to the launch pad, where the stainless steel rocket towered above the flat scrubland and prairie. By JENNIFER McDERMOTT (Associated Pres)HOPKINTON, Mass. (AP) — The fastest and most-decorated field in race history left Hopkinton on Monday for the start of the 127th Boston Marathon, with world record-holder Eliud Kipchoge leading a field of 30,000 on the 26.2-mile (42.2 kilometer) trek to Copley Square.Forecasts of a headwind and a thick fog blanketing the hilly course, leaving the roads wet, dampened Kipchoge’s chances of besting his world mark of 2 hours, 1 minute, 9 seconds in his Boston debut. Still, a win in the world’s oldest and most prestigious long-distance race would give the 38-year-old Kenyan victories in an unprecedented five of the six major marathons.Ethiopian Amane Beriso led a women’s field that was also among the strongest in the division’s half-century of history. For the first time, the race also includes a nonbinary division, with 27 athletes registered.A dozen former champions and runners from 120 countries and all 50 states wer...
