NEW YORK (AP) — Billie Jean King is still globetrotting in support of more investment and equity in women’s sports. She attended the Women’s World Cup in Australia, kicked off the player draft for the new women’s professional hockey league in Toronto and is opening an office in London for a tennis business venture involving the international Billie Jean King Cup.That’s all in the last three months for King, who turns 80 in November.“We’re kind of at a tipping point,” King said. “People are actually looking at women’s sports like a great investment.”She’s part of ownership groups involved with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the NWSL’s Angel City FC and the PWHL hockey league that starts in January. Her busy schedule is reminiscent of the summer of 1973, when a 29-year-old King established the WTA, won the Wimbledon triple crown in singles, doubles and mixed doubles, achieved equal pay at the U.S. Open and beat self-proclaimed chauvinist Bobby Riggs in the “Battle of the Sexes” m...Wales pick two opensides to try and hamstring Argentina in Rugby World Cup quarterfinal

LONDON (AP) — Frankie Dettori isn’t done with horse racing just yet.The 52-year-old Italian jockey was set to retire at the end of 2023 but has reversed his decision after enjoying a successful farewell season, during which he had winners in the 2,000 Guineas and the Gold Cup at Ascot. He said those successes “tickled his emotions” and now he is moving to California with his wife, Catherine, to ride at Santa Anita for the rest of the year — and maybe longer.“How long I continue race-riding overseas and where my American journey takes me, no one can predict,” Dettori said Thursday, “but I welcome the challenge in this new chapter.”He said his final rides in Britain will be at the British Champions Day at Ascot next week.Dettori, who has been a jockey since 1987, became a global phenomenon at Ascot when he won all seven races in one day there in September 1996, after which he produced his storied flying dismount.“It will still be sad for me on Saturday week — I will say goo...¿Se verá el eclipse solar en DC?

No. 12 North Carolina looks to stay unbeaten by hosting No. 25 Miami in the ACC

The City of Kingston aims to support harm reduction measures for Queen’s Homecoming in part by facilitating the extended operation of food trucks throughout the event. With Queen’s Homecoming approaching in late October, the City of Kingston has been strategizing and collaborating with campus organizations to ensure smooth sailing. At city council this week, Coun. JERUSALEM (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken vowed American support to Israel on Thursday as its military pulverized the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip with airstrikes and prepared for a possible ground invasion. As Palestinians tried to stock up on bread and groceries amid dwindling supplies, Israel said nothing would be allowed into Gaza until Hamas militants freed some 150 hostages taken during their deadly weekend incursion.International aid groups warned of a worsening humanitarian crisis after Israel halted deliveries of food, water, fuel and electricity to Gaza’s 2.3 million people and prevented entry of supplies from Egypt. The war has claimed at least 2,700 lives on both sides.“Not a single electricity switch will be flipped on, not a single faucet will be turned on, and not a single fuel truck will enter until the Israeli hostages are returned home,” Israeli Energy Minister Israel Katz said on social media.Lt.
